I felt quite encourage and motivated after seeing the steps taken by The NGO AKSHAR.
But according to my point of view, in remote a village, it’s very essential to understand the culture and aspects of the people like language they speak. Then by being with them once if I can recognize problem of their dropouts, I can take different steps accordingly.
In a remote village, Gram Panchayat is the head body which look after the people living. So it would be a good idea to take their help and endeavour to impart the knowledge of education. But this needs help of fellow teachers and NGOs who all play an important part.
To encourage them towards a rational goal, we can put the examples of some developed villages like “Punsari” through orientations so that they can visualize how their life would be.
After doing so, we can gradually impart the basic knowledge which would help them to co-op with the other people outer world. They can learn some basic skills like operating their own phones, reading bus numbers, etc. Farmers would get a lot of help from this initiative as they don’t have to be dependent on landowners as they can take the loan from the banks in spite of borrow money. The farmers would be able to make their nurture the plants in a scientific way. This would increase their scope. They would get good money and a good life to live.
Once this is done, they would automatically realize the importance of education and they would take initiative to make their own children educated.
I agree ....it was quite amazing and inspirational video.. but as it is said that few obstacles prevent adults from pursuing education, those are fear, shyness, ego, and stigma. Daily wagers are reluctant to join schools as by joining these schools they lose their only source of income.
ReplyDeleteIt is in this light of the importance of adult education, perception of people about adult education should be changed by funding the programmes of adult education adequately and adult learner’s willingness to participate in programmes that would develop them and the communities in which they live will definitely bring progress to adult education and Making frantic efforts to provide well equipped adult education centres, well trained facilitators.
There must be a great change in the perception of adult education by the generality of the people and this can be done by educating people on what adult education stands for. People will have good perception of adult education programmes, if they are timely, relevant and innovative and If these programmes reflect practical/real life situation. free exercise books and primers should be supplied by the state government or sarpanch in villages.
As it is said in video that private part also has an important part to play as to provide encouragement and to take independent initiative .
i agree with my co participants..After watching video of akshar i would like to emphasize some points. the lady who was teaching adults while being interviewed she said one thing that some illiterate adults find it difficult to dial a number on cellphone or type a message over phone..personally i have also seen such adults who face such problem. my point is that, technology(mobile, computer) can indirectly motivate them to learn atleast basic education, it can make them curious to learn.another thing i would like to say is, we should make them realise that there is no age for learning , you can learn anything at any age and how learing basic things can bring a sort of respect to themselves.yes, i agree that private, corporate ngo's can play vital role to spreadout adult literacy.
ReplyDeleteIn remote rural/tribal areas, there is a high prevalence of superstitious beliefs. These beliefs can be eliminated by giving rational explanations to the occurrences and scientific demonstrations of what causes such natural phenomena.
ReplyDeleteTribal people can be taught about solar power and bio gas and its various uses, so that they can make use of such renewable sources of energy to improve their lifestyle.
They can also be taught simple maths concepts such as profit and loss which can help them in day to day life.
In certain cases, it becomes necessary to live with tribal groups to understand their cultural beliefs and practices as well as their way of communication. This engagement is crucial if we want to help them.
Education is not only limited in classrooms. We can use media in the field of education to spread the importance of education among the tribal people..eg through radio...v cn arrange workshops fr thm wid the help of NGOs like teaching thm simple arithemic like profit n loss , cooking ,taloring ,reading n writing , letter writing so tht thy cn communicate with their relatives who live miles frm thm....
ReplyDeleteEven we cn keep camps on family planning..Arrange campaign for clean enviroment by making thm participate in it..Employment opportunities should be increased fr both men n women , provided through better education in a Non Formal way..
Irradicating illeteracy is a toughest challenge in a country like india, which is so big in geographical terms as well in different cultures n beliefs . Illiteracy goes hand in hand with poverty and poor infrastructure. NGO s like Akshar and many others have are doing a very good job by privately taking initiative to literate as many indians as possible.
ReplyDeletelooking at adult literacy in villages n rural areas requires a lot of support from their sarpanch or their area head , as they follow them a student to its teacher.
Early classes or mid night schooling can be started so that the family members income generating source shouldnt stop, and make them understand ,counsell them that with more knowledge it will help them earn more.
They should be educated about btter irrigation facilities, then accounting their income n savings so they dont land up morgaging their lands.
Then women could be thaught skills like sewing, preserving foods and as well as basic education.
so with this when parents get educated, they will encourage their children to do so n the drop out rates will be reduced. there will be a ripple effect from one drop of goodness to help others selflessly and educating others.
Tribal education is not altogether a different kind of education. It is education to suit the special needs and aspirations of tribal groups who are in different stages of development.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, we should aware the tribal people what changes will happen because of education.Their life standard will increase. The women of tribal areas could be taught sewing, preserving foods etc.The basic education could be taught to tribal peoples which will help them in their day-to-day life.for example-simple counting, knowlede of numbers.addition ,subtraction will help them while dealing with buying or selling of goods. The women of these areas can contribute in their family earning by sewing, packing of goods, home made products etc.
The people of tribal areas could be taught about newly methods of increasing crop production. If the parents of tribal areas understood the importance of education ,they will encourage their children to go to school ,so the problems of dropout could be minimized.
Well done! V good comments posted nd v elaborate too !
